Corrimos como verdaderas campeonas, no ganamos, pero nos divertimos. Mi mejor amiga y yo nos inscribimos a un pequeño maratón de 10 kilómetros, y nuestros galanes, menos afectos al ejercicio, nos esperaron en la lÃnea de llegada con los celulares listos para inmortalizar el momento de nuestro paso por la meta. Después de ese instante de triunfo donde te sientes más viva que nunca, vinieron las selfies, abracé a mi amiga mientras sonreÃamos y de pronto, suelo… Ella, no yo. Se me escurrió de entre mi brazo para ir a dar al piso sin conocimiento, pálida como polvorón, inerte. Imaginarán el episodio que siguió: histeria, confusión, paramédicos y uno que otro buen samaritano recetando todo tipo de cosas para reanimarla. Después de la revisión, el diagnóstico fue: deshidratación. El clima y la sudoración excesiva durante la carrera pusieron su cuerpo bajo un estrés considerable. Recuerdo que en los dÃas previos, mientras entrenábamos, llegó a quejarse de dolor de cabeza y calambres musculares, pero todo se lo achacamos a sus nervios. Además, es la tÃpica que siempre carga con su botellita de agua para todos lados, solo que después me enteré que esa botellita de escaso medio litro le duraba todo el dÃa, lo demás lo sustituÃa bebiendo café o jugos.
Platicando con el médico me quedé de una pieza al enterarme de lo delicado que es el tema de la hidratación y la poca importancia que le damos, y después, cuando presentamos ciertos sÃntomas, los achacamos a todo tipo de causas, menos a la deshidratación, por ejemplo las bajas de presión arterial, las palpitaciones, la migraña, el mal humor e incluso la sensación de hambre, pueden deberse a la falta del lÃquido vital en tu cuerpo. Y no, los refrescos y otros lÃquidos no cuentan, no te hidratan igual, algunos incluso, como el café, pueden actuar como diuréticos y favorecer aún más la pérdida de lÃquidos. Otro consejo que nos dio fue no esperar a tener la sensación de sed, ya que para entonces tu cuerpo está en problemas pidiendo a gritos tomar agua, de ahà a la descompensación ya no estás muy lejos. Perder el conocimiento, como sucedió con mi amiga, es ya un sÃntoma delicado a considerar.
A partir de ahÃ, ella y yo acordamos ponernos alarmas cada hora aproximadamente para recordarnos si nos estamos hidratando suficiente. Puede parecer tonto, pero te ayuda a generar el hábito. Los dÃas que entrenamos, preparamos agua con limón, una pizca de sal y una cucharadita de miel, nos funciona perfecto para hidratar. También puedes optar por bebidas con electrolitos, mi favorita es el agua de coco, porque es natural y te ayuda muchÃsimo a estabilizarte rápidamente, en especial si ya estás con el dolorcito de cabeza. Claro, si los sÃntomas continúan aún después de hidratarte, entonces ya es cosa de que te revise un médico para descartar otras complicaciones. El cuerpo es sabio, nos manda señales todo el tiempo, para prevenir, solo hay que escucharlo.
